Portrait lighting in studio setting

Fill light- additional lighting added to soft shadows and dark spots created by other lights.
Main light- main lighting source that lights up the subject. brightest light in studio.
Hair light- lights up the hair. giving it definition and creating highlights and shadows.
Background light- lights up the background and gives the impression that lights coming from behind them.
Shadowless lighting- no shadows at all.
Butterfly- butterfly shape shadow made under the nose (hollywood style thing).
Loop- shadow on the nose from a light from above.
Split- one side illuminated and there other shadowed.
Rembrandt- creates triangle of light on subjects cheek. subject facing away….thats all I got.
Grey Card-refelctance card used instead of a subject for a reflected light meter reading

Hard light versus soft light- H= small, direct, focusable light that produces highlights. S= bounced indirect light. opposite of hard light.
3:1 lighting ratio- 3x as much lighting on side of the face as the other.
Inverse square law of light (remember photography)- lighting thats twice the distance from the camera will have a 1/4 of intensity.

1.) Don't center your subject

2.) Don't crop at joints (ex. elbow
3.) Make the model sit up straight, no slouching

4.) Solid colors against backgrounds

5.) focus on the eyes. it'll look weird with the nose all in focus.
Also find at least 3 photos that illustrate some of these suggestions and post them on your blog
